THE ISLE OF MAN is an internally self-governing dependant territory of the Crown which is not part of the United Kingdom. Tynwald, the Island's 1,000-year-old Parliament, makes its own laws and oversees all internal administration, fiscal and social policies.

The UK Government administers external issues, such as foreign representation and defence, on the Island’s behalf and the Island makes an annual payment for these services. The Island has it's own Income Tax and Customs and Excise services and has long been a low tax area enjoying total independence from the UK on matters of direct taxation. There is low corporate and personal tax and no Capital Transfer or Inheritance Tax.

Location: The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea, between England, Scotland, and Ireland. The Latitude is 54° 3’ – 54° 25’ North, Longitude 40° 18’ – 40° 47’ West.

The Isle of Man is 32.5 miles long (52.3 Km), 13.5 miles wide (21.7 Km), and the area is 221 square miles (356 Km2). The longest river is 10.5 miles (19.9 Km) – the Sulby river, and the highest peak is Snaefell – 2,036 feet (621 metres).

Distances: The closest point from the United Kingdom is Burrow Head, Scotland, some 16 miles from the Point of Ayre. London (Heathrow) is 251 miles (404 Km) and 60 minutes flying time away; Liverpool 88 miles (142 Km), and Dublin 79 miles (127 Km), both a 30 minutes flight, Manchester is 108 miles (174 Km) away, a 40 minutes flight.
